Lisa Moynihan
Counsellor and Psychotherapist
I’m Lisa Moynihan, an accredited counsellor and psychotherapist in Teddington
Life brings many pressures. Talking to a trained counsellor can often help. I’ve been helping lots of people as a counsellor and psychotherapist for over ten years, so if you feel the need to talk to someone, why not get in touch?
I’ve not always been a therapist – my first career was in the corporate world, working on major change projects for Blue Chip companies. My passion was leadership development; helping people reach their potential, and through this I developed an interest in people, relationships, and psychology.
Working in business, I witnessed first-hand the impact of stress and competing demands on people’s health and wellbeing. This was the motivation behind my career change in 2010 when I started my journey to retrain as a psychotherapist.
While I currently work in private practice, I have also worked with the NHS and in the charity sector.
Are you struggling with
- A significant or unexpected life-change?
- Low self-esteem, or a feeling of being not good enough?
- Anxiety which can range from constant worry to panic attacks or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)?
- Depression or low mood?
- Managing relationships; trusting people and being able to communicate how you feel?
- Trauma? I have specialist interest in working with people who have experienced trauma either in childhood or as an adult. This includes suffering a life changing event or living through repeated traumatic experiences such as abuse, neglect or domestic violence.
The benefits therapy can bring
- Self-discovery leading to greater self-understanding and insight, feeling more compassionate and accepting of who you are.
- Able to look to the future, and open to the possibility of new and different experiences.
- Feeling empowered, better equipped and able to cope with life’s challenges.
- More flexible in your ways of being, thinking, and feeling free to make choices and change.
- A positive change in how you think and feel about yourself.
- Improved relationships with your family and partners.
- Able to make peace with your past.
My approach
Central to my approach is building a warm, trusting and honest relationship where you will feel safe and free to explore your concerns without judgement.
Together we will look at your past experiences and relationships and how these have shaped you and drive your current behaviour patterns. This can help you figure out unhelpful patterns and make positive changes.
I am an integrative therapist which means I combine several approaches and theories to help my clients including Person-Centred, Cognitive Behavioural and Psychodynamic.
Where appropriate, I help clients build their own tool kit to help identify and manage difficult thoughts and feelings and build their resilience.
“I could tell from our first conversation that Lisa immediately ‘got’ the challenge I had and I knew I’d be able to work with her”
About your first session
Therapy sessions last 50 minutes and take place in my garden office.
It is comfortable and discreet and has a separate entry.
Because it is confidential, counselling and psychotherapy can seem a little mysterious and perhaps even a little intimidating. You may wonder what goes on behind the closed doors and whether your problem is either too big, too small or not appropriate for counselling. For this reason, I offer the chance to have a chat on the phone before you commit to an initial counselling session.
The first session is a chance for us both to meet, discuss your background and how we might work together. There is no obligation to continue after this first meeting. However, if you decide to move forward, we will meet at the same time every week for an agreed number of sessions with regular reviews along the way.
